Your photographer will spend about 90 minutes shooting at the location of your choice within 60 miles from the studio in Savage, MD. This is a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera and to get to know your photographer. This session can also be used as a bridal portrait session or a day-after session. Great for save-the-date announcements!

The Wood Wall:
We love the wood wall on the parking lot side of District Winery for family photos. It’s always in full shade, which makes for beautiful and simple lighting for these kinds of photos. It’s a bit more secluded than other locations and has an easy in and out through the back door of the winery, so on cold and/or rainy days, this can minimize expose to weather conditions. It’s efficient and ideal for small to medium sized groups. Not ideal for larger groups.
The Grove of Birch Trees toward the waterfront:
This location requires a little bit of walking, so keep that in mind for those with mobility concerns, but the light is a bit brighter and still in shade for easy, beautiful portraits. This location is a bit better for large groups because there are stairs.
What to know about photos at the DC Monuments
If you are considering one of D.C.’s historic and beautiful monuments for your portraits, you’ll want to know a few things first. You can easily apply and get a permit for photos at the monuments. There is a fee, but it’s nominal and the application for the permit should be submitted three weeks before your event/session. You’ll want to have a hired car to drive everyone including your photographer to and from the monument. There is limited parking and you want to be sure everyone makes it there together. It may be busy, but with some patience, you’ll find that the locations we use regularly will clear out. We ask that the couple applies for the permit, but if you would like us to take care of this for you, we can manage it for an administrative fee. Here’s the link for the permit:

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
01 Do I need a second photographer?
The second photographer is a professional whom we trust to be in a different location during your wedding and make photographs that are comparable to your primary photographer’s coverage. For example, your second photographer may be with the groom and groomsmen as they get ready, while your primary photographer is with the bride and bridesmaids as they get ready.
02 How many coverage hours will we need?
We offer an option to extend your second photographer’s time to capture the end of the wedding, while your primary photographer departs on schedule. We want you to have all the coverage you need, so a second photographer later in the event is an ideal alternative to having two photographers stay late. In fact, we’ve learned that many of the most stunning and emotionally-charged photos happen as you’re getting ready. So that’s an important time for your photographer to get to know your wedding party and family, so they can recognize (and photograph) the important people. To give you some downtime – a wonderful break from the hustle and bustle of your day – we recommend carving out time to photograph you as a couple prior to your ceremony. If you’re considering this, talk to us about how we can make it happen!
03 We’re not that comfortable in front of the camera, so what can you do to make us feel more relaxed?
That’s the question we most enjoy answering! At first, you may notice us and feel shy, but after a while, you’ll barely notice us as we blend into the background, gently capturing moments that are timeless and fun. For relaxed, posed photos of you two together, we whisk you away from the action for a short time, so you can enjoy each other during quiet moments that are all about your connection and chemistry. And of course, we’ll be there to collaborate, offering direction and posing instructions that work for you.
04 When will we see our photos?
The week following your wedding, we will send you a sneak peek of a few favorite images. About six to eight weeks later, you’ll receive your complete online gallery with instructions to download the files.
05 How much retouching do you do to images?
We serve clients by offering core color-correction, tonal adjustment, exposure adjustments, dodging and burning, and conversion to black-and-white for photos delivered to clients. Any additional retouching, including blemish removal, background object removal, or other significant adjustments are offered on a custom, fee-based basis. In some cases, we can complete these requests in-house; other times, we work with an independent retoucher. This is determined on a case-by-case basis and incurs a nominal fee of $25 per image.
06 How many photos will we receive?
Our approach allows a lot of photos throughout the day, with the goal of carefully curating and delivering the best. In addition to the photographic process, we are experienced editors. When we edit, we curate and refine photos on an large screen, carefully examining exposure, lighting, body language, gesture, expression and of course, composition. The curation process is intensive and allows us to carefully craft your final photographs. When the process is complete, you’ll receive a gallery of approximately 600 to 900 images.
